Bluefish 2.2.10 – text editor that is not developed for average user. This open source editor developed mainly for software and web developers.
There is a large set of presets and snippets.
There is no problem to find an appropriate text editor. There are good alternatives such as Notepad++ or Brackets. But to find powerful, convenient and free text editor is not that simple. One of few code editors that respond to all users’ queries is Bluefish.
First thing that catches your attention – is interface design. It is done in gray theme of MacOS style. Whole main window is divided into several blocks. At the top there is a control menu. Here you can find such functions as “create”, “delete”, “cut”, “paste” and others. But it is not the most important thing. Block which is located below causes much interest. Here is a snippets panel. Snippets – are parts of the code that are used more frequently than others, so-called blanks. That means – when you click on the relevant snippet button you immediately get the snippet code where your cursor is located. Often, as a snippet tables, lists, forms, various meta tags are used.
Below there is editor with syntax higlighting. All currently open documents are grouped in tabs at the bottom of the editor window, or at the top depending on how you configure Bluefish.
Essence of this editor is to make programmers’ life easier and to increase developing speed. Bluefish is stuffed almost with all settings and snippets that generate ready code page, and save you from routine work.
Bluefish supports variety of file encodings. It also knows how to convert files from one encoding to any other, what is especially important for web developers.
It is important to notice that Bluefish is powerful and functional editor. But at the same time, it consumes very little system resources and is almost the fastest editor.
