Basically, PuTTY is used to access a server via SSH and Telnet protocols, Windows does not have a built in program to work with SSH.
PuTTY is a small and fast program with open source that is written with C programming language. PuTTY works through the following protocols: Rlogin, SSH, SFTP, SCP, Telnet, and the program can be operated via serial port.
With PuTTY Program you can connect to some routers and Linux servers, and you are able to work from the command line. PuTTY supports Internet Protocols – IPv4 and IPV6.
PuTTY supports proxy server authorization. You can create and save your PuTTY session for connecting to different devices with different protocols.
